For the 1935 movie, we created a gangster crime film called Chasing Scarface. This movie is about al Capone who is on the run from Chicago's great cop Elliot Ness. We choose this type of film because these movies were huge in the 1930s. For the cast of our movie we have Edward G. Robinson playing Al Capone, James Cagny playing Elliot Ness, and Glenda Farrell playing Al Capones girlfriend who is actually an undercover cop who eventually will turn Capone in to Elliot Ness. Chasing Scarface is different from the other gangster crime movies because in this movie the criminal is on the run and story is told from the perspective of the cop. We are not breaking the Hayes code because we aren't showing all the bloody crime scenes and all the sex scenes. We are focusing the story on catching the bad guy not the crime itself. We choose all these actors because they are well actors and actresses in the category of gangster crime
If I were to do this on my own I would ignore the Hayes Code because good movies take risks and in the 1930s movies were so scared to break this code be ause they would think they would be severally punished.
Some good ideas here, but it's pretty skimpy. I wish there were more here. For example, which studio? If you ignore the Hays Code, a major studio wouldn't be able to produce it, which isn't a total problem, it's just that you couldn't use these actors. You'd need to go independent. So yeah, it'd just be nice to hear a little more reason behind the choices.
